Back in about 2010, Mykee Inouye was going after what made him happy in life. Cooking great food and sharing it with the people he cared about. Initially on a different path with the family business, he made a difficult decision to change course and follow his heart. For many years, the pieces of this puzzle had been quietly coming together behind the scenes to ultimately make Restaurant Kenichi the success that it is today. Not only had he been perfecting his cooking skills, but he also had the advantage of learning how to make amazing ramen from his late grandmother and carrying her recipes forward with him. Mykee was also considered an expert fisherman, and his spirit and personality made it easy for him to make loyal and caring friends.
On September 10th, 2013, Restaurant Kenichi opened its doors for the first time in the Hilo community where Mykee grew up. The first plates were served to eager guests, and Restaurant Kenichi was born. Mykee's wife Terri was there for every step of the process and has been for the last 12 years. She now carries on with the business, continuing to be a staple of the community and a place where people from Hilo and all over the world come to visit every year.
